NOTICE OF RESTRICTION OF E-MONEY TOKENS (USDC and EURØP)

Temporary suspension of USDC and EURØP transfers from 1 March 2026.

Written by David
Updated this week

From 1 March 2026, Send and Receive will be temporarily unavailable for USDC and EURØP on Kriptomat.

Trading and custody will remain available.

This is a temporary, compliance-driven measure taken to meet EU supervisory requirements.

What are e-money tokens (EMTs)?

Some stablecoins, including USDC and EURØP, are classified under EU rules as Electronic Money Tokens (EMTs).

According to guidance from the European Banking Authority (EBA), EMT transfers must be treated similarly to traditional money transfers under PSD2 (payment services regulation), not only under the crypto-asset framework (MiCA).

This affects how crypto service providers like Kriptomat can support transfer functionality for these assets.

What is changing on 1 March 2026?

Starting 1 March 2026, Kriptomat will temporarily suspend the following features for:

  • USDC

  • EURØP

The following options will be unavailable:

  • ❌ Send

  • ❌ Receive

This change applies only to USDC and EURØP.

It does not affect Send/Receive functionality for other crypto assets such as:

  • BTC

  • ETH

  • XRP

  • and other supported cryptocurrencies

What will still be available?

You can continue to:

  • ✅ Hold USDC and EURØP in custody on Kriptomat

  • ✅ Buy, sell, and exchange USDC and EURØP (where available in your region)

  • ✅ Trade them like any other supported asset

Up until 1 March 2026, you can also:

  • Buy USDC and EURØP

  • Withdraw them to an external wallet

If you wish to use stablecoins independently of the platform, we encourage you to review your balances and make any transfers before this date.

Why is this happening?

The European Banking Authority clarified that EMT transfers are considered payment/transfer services under PSD2.

As a crypto service provider, we currently cannot support Send/Receive for USDC and EURØP in a way that meets these supervisory expectations.

To remain fully compliant across the EU, we are temporarily pausing these features while we finalise a compliant solution.

This is:

  • A regulatory alignment measure

  • A temporary restriction

  • Not related to liquidity or safety

Is Kriptomat still regulated?

Yes. Kriptomat is regulated in Estonia and holds a license issued by the Estonian Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU).

We are also pending approval under the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework.

This change relates specifically to the regulatory treatment of EMT transfers under PSD2 and does not affect our operational license status.

Is this permanent?

No. This is a temporary restriction. We are actively working to re-enable Send/Receive functionality for USDC and EURØP as soon as a compliant solution is implemented.

What should I do?

You don’t need to take any action if you are only trading or holding USDC or EURØP on Kriptomat.

If you rely on Send/Receive functionality for these assets, we recommend:

  • Reviewing your balances

  • Making any necessary transfers before 1 March 2026
